What Is Isofix?

Basically (deep breath)...
...in more expensive cars, there are little, rigid, metal loops that are down the crack of the rear seats. These two loops are a standard shape and distance apart and are actually welded directly to the car's chassis. These simple metal loops are your car's ISOFIX fitting. An "ISOFIX CAR SEAT" can then hook itself directly into these loops and effectively become as secure as the car's own seats.

So the word ISOFIX describes these standardised metal loops available on some more expensive cars (check your car's manual). And so an ISOFIX CAR SEAT is one that has it's own way of attaching to these ISOFIX metal loops.
